The finish in Perth

Yair Rodriguez, identified by the UFC as Mexican, earned his contract through The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America. He later faced Josh Emmett for the interim featherweight championship at UFC 284 at RAC Arena in Perth, Australia. The interim title was created while featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski moved up to challenge lightweight champion Islam Makhachev. [YR1] [YR2]

Rodriguez landed elbows from the bottom late in the opening round against Emmett. In the second, Rodriguez attempted a flying knee before Emmett took him down. Rodriguez responded with elbows and punches from his back, then shifted his hips and locked in a triangle choke. [YR3]

Emmett submitted to the choke in the second round, giving Rodriguez the interim UFC featherweight title. [YR1] [YR3]
