What Tijuana Put on Its Anniversary Stage

On Sunday 26 July 2026, Latin American Prospects staged its sixth card at Plaza Palacios, the Facultad de Medicina de la UABC grounds in Zona Río, beside the Palacio Municipal in Tijuana. Admission was free, the first bouts started at noon, and the card carried fifteen amateur mixed martial arts and kickboxing bouts, two of them for championships, with competitors drawn from both sides of the border. The occasion was the 137th anniversary of the city.

A civic anniversary with a cage on it

Strip away the fight card and what is left is a municipal birthday programme. Put the fight card back and the arrangement becomes unusual enough to be worth stating plainly: a city marked its founding by putting sanctioned amateur combat sport on a public plaza next to its own seat of government, at noon, for nothing. Regional shows in this corridor normally happen indoors, at night, behind a ticket. This one happened in daylight, outdoors, in front of whoever was already there for the anniversary.

That is a distribution decision before it is a sporting one. An amateur fighter on this card was seen by an audience assembled for a civic event rather than by an audience that had bought a ticket to see fighting. Very little of the regional circuit works that way.

The bouts the press named

Four bouts were named in the press ahead of the card. The main event put Doedk Rodríguez of Tijuana against Víctor "Cubano" Flores of Ensenada for a 155-pound championship, and the co-main put Santiago "The Goat" Huerta of Mazatlán, Sinaloa, against Zion Fairley of Tucson, Arizona, for a 125-pound championship. The featured amateur bout was contested at 130 pounds between Emma Chandler and Jazmín Lara of Bombón MMA in Tijuana.

The remaining bouts on the card were not named in the source, and they are not named here. Naming fighters a source does not name is the failure mode this site is built to avoid, and an amateur card is exactly where that failure would land on people with no platform to correct it.

What happened on the card

Twelve bouts were contested, and one referee, Asael Guzman, worked all twelve. Eleven of them ended inside the distance: seven by submission, three by strikes, and one by disqualification, with a single bout going to a decision. That finishing rate is the clearest thing the results say about how the card was matched.

Doedk Rodríguez took the lightweight title in the main event, stopping Víctor "Cubano" Flores on a doctor's stoppage at 3:00 of the second round. In the flyweight title fight beneath it, Santiago "The Goat" Huerta beat Zion Fairley by technical knockout at 1:53 of the second.

Eighteen other fighters competed and are not named here. This site names fighters on an amateur card only where a public source named them before the event, and the press named four bouts. A database entry is enough to confirm a result; it is not the basis on which this site starts putting amateur names on a public page.

The featured amateur bout

Emma Chandler beat Jazmín Lara by technical knockout, from punches, at 2:00 of the first round, stopped by referee Asael Guzman. The bout was placed tenth of twelve, directly beneath the two title fights. It was contested at 130 pounds and it was the card's featured amateur bout.

What the promotion is building around the cards

LAP is backed by working professionals from the corridor. As of 1 August 2026 its named backers include the UFC fighters Michael Morales, Yazmín Jáuregui and Christian Quiñónez. Its first card ran on 20 July 2025 at Entram Gym, which makes LAP 06 the promotion's first anniversary.

The programme around the cards is documented too. For LAP 05 on 3 May 2026 the promotion hosted more than fifty guests from the Orfanatorio Puerta de Fe, and one of them competed on the card. Raúl Arvizu has stated plans for a free youth mixed martial arts school in Tijuana as part of a second phase, a plan that as of 1 August 2026 remains a stated plan rather than an opened door.
