Raúl Arvizu and the Room Beyond the Card

The coach who opened a Tijuana academy in 2006 and turned it into a room that produced a world champion, and the grappling lineage he carried to the border.

By Marco A. Rentería · Gyms & Coaches, Northern Corridor

Raúl Arvizu founded Entram Gym in Tijuana in 2006. Two decades on, the part of his work that leaves the least trace in a results database is the part this page is about: what the gym does for people who are not on a card.

Arvizu holds a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt under Dean Lister, and that lineage set the room's technical standard from the beginning. ESPN Deportes has described Entram as one of the most recognized mixed martial arts gyms in Mexico. That reputation is usually measured in roster names and title fights. It is also measurable in who gets through the door.

The Orfanatorio Puerta de Fe at LAP 05

In November 2025 Arvizu launched Latin American Prospects, a regional amateur promotion run out of Entram. For its fifth card, held 3 May 2026 at the Gimnasio Independencia, the promotion hosted more than fifty guests from the Orfanatorio Puerta de Fe, and one of them competed on the card.

The detail worth holding onto is the last one. Fifty seats is hospitality, and hospitality is common enough in regional promotion. A place on the card is not hospitality. It means a child from that home was trained, matched, weighed in and sanctioned like any other amateur on the bill, which is a different kind of commitment and a considerably longer one.

Fifty seats is an invitation. A place on the card is a season of work.

A free school, stated

Arvizu has stated plans for a free youth mixed martial arts school in Tijuana as part of the promotion's second phase. That is a stated intention with a date on it, not an opened building, and this page records it as such. AXIS will report the school when it exists and not before.

Why this is in the record at all

Combat sports archives are built to log outcomes, so the things a gym does that produce no outcome tend to vanish from them. A coach's public footprint becomes a list of other people's wins. That is an accurate record of a career and a poor record of a room.

The entries above are in the archive for the same reason the results are: they happened, they were reported by an independent outlet, and they are part of what the gym is.

Verification note The orphanage entry above sources a specific event, LAP 05 on 3 May 2026, reported by Semanario ZETA on 21 April 2026. It records an invitation extended to more than fifty guests and one participant on the card. It does not establish an ongoing sponsorship, donated equipment, or continuing support, and no source AXIS has located establishes those. If such a programme exists, this page will say so once it is documented. The youth school is recorded as a stated plan, attributed and dated, because that is what the source supports.
